Steve Cicak: Questionare

We questioned city councilman Steve Cicak on his service, his family, and his humble beginnings. Read what he had to say on his first term in council, and his many influences going into council.

Q: What made you get into public service? Was it always something you wanted to
do, or rather a great opportunity that was unplanned?

A: My venture into public service was not intended. I drove my niece to Swim Meets
around central Ohio and I saw inequality of opportuny for our kids. I wanted to
change it.

Q: When you were first elected, what were some of your goals you set in place for
yourself?

A: I wanted to do what was right for the City of Reynoldsburg and our People. I look
at the City as a separate entity and our people as shareholders and investors.
We passed Issue 11 and provided Reynoldsburg with the revenue that we needed.
We are starting to make long range plans.

Q: Are some of these goals still a work in progress?

A: Yes, We still need to finance the building of our Community Center/YMCA
and that will require both temporary and permanent bonds and our
Comprehensive Master Plan is in its earliest stages.

Q: Was your first year in council like something you expected?

A: It was one of the proudest moments and highest honors of my life to serve in the
position that Speaker of the House Joann Davidson once held.

Q: People have a certain idea when they hear the word "politician" and that is not
always positive. Did you feel you had to prove to anyone how great you could be
for city council?

A: Not at all. I was raised that to be the greatest, is to be the greatest servant. I
consider myself a servant for the City and her people.

Q: Your family has a history of being involved with Reynoldsburg as a community,
can you explain this further?

A: My mother taught us to give back at an early age. In the 1980’s she purchased
all the weights for the High School Weight room. She has also be in service
washing the Raiders football uniforms for 30 + years.

Q: Because of the aforementioned history, did you find it easy to garner support for your
election?

A: Yes, Our family name while difficult to pronounce, has great recognition.

Q: If your younger self (say twenties) could appear before you, what do you think he would
say?

A: What happened to my hair? You married far above our station in life.

Q: Conversely, if you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what
would it be?

A: Invest early in Microsoft and study harder

We hoped you enjoyed the quick look into one of our public representatives, and got a laugh or two as well. Stay tuned to thisisreynoldsburg.org and the Cotner Funeral Home Facebook page for more updates on future articles and videos.
